I am humbled and honored to have this photo adorn the cover of the 2016 annual photography showcase of Virginia Wildlife. I have to admit, when I first saw this, I was in a state of disbelief. A surreal sort of moment (or two). When I realized my eyes were not tricking me, gratitude filled my heart for the journey that made this achievement possible. From my fourth grade teacher who connected me with lifelong mentors in the Lynchburd Bird Club at the age of nine, to my loving wife-partner-friend Lori who supports me in all endeavors. And Cedar Waxwing photo (below) within the magazine was icing on the cake. Special thanks to the creative staff at Virginia Wildlife for keeping with the tradition of this special issue. It represents the abundance of talented photographers that we have here in the Commonwealth of Virginia and provides a top-notch platform for them to share the beauty of our state. Issue after issue it shows the importance of protecting our state’s creatures and habitat for recreation, hunting and fishing. Forgive me as I take a short victory lap, but my bucket list just got a little shorter!
