Notes: This is another shot from earlier this year. As each spring has arrived and passed, so have the songs of the migrant birds. These calls are only heard in this area for a couple of months each year as these birds pass through on their northern trek. My wife and I were sitting on the back porch late one evening, wondering what the strange call was coming from the neighbor's backyard. Over and over we heard a rapid-sharp "Wee-see, wee-see, wee-see" like sound. I should have known, that when I heard a call that I did not recognize, that it probably belonged to this lovely little member of the warbler family. For some reason, it is especially difficult for me to connect this bird's call with its owner. This confusion seems to repeat each spring, no matter how much I study the warbler calls. Moments later, an orange and black flash flittered across the canopy of the large White Oak in the backyard. There was no doubt where that call was coming from and I felt silly for not remembering the Redstart's call.
