Acadian Flycatcher

Where: Verina, VA • Buz and Nelda Snyder's Notes: Spotted by someone attending the Richmond Audubon Society summer picnic, this little flycatcher's nest was found hanging about twelve feet over the water of the woodland lake. It was delicately woven in the divide of a Beech Tree branch. The light reflecting off the water gives this photo an under-lit lighting affect. After hearing the bird's call, we knew it was an "Acadian" and not one of the other very similar Flycatcher species (LEFT). I was amazed at how tiny the nest was. Even though this little bird is only six inches long, its nest still seemed proportionally small. Thanks to good friends for sharing their home for the Richmond Audubon Picnic. |
