Where: Prince Edward County, VA • Featherfin Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Notes: With the arrival of our breeding season birds, comes the memories of many past summers. This shot was taken while on an Audubon IBAs survey of the new Piedmont IBA. Participating in these types of events has instilled a spirit of service and brings along the excitement of exploration. Species diversity as well as populations were counted on this trip. Most of the habitat was brushy fields that were bordered by deciduous trees. But the sight and double-noted song of the Indigo Bunting takes me back to the weekends of my youth in the country. I clearly remember the first Bunting I saw perched at the tip-top of the tallest tree. |
