Where: Chincoteague, VA • Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge Notes: What could be more natural for a bird to be doing than flying? For me, the ability to capture action shots like this takes some experience. This image was captured as a result of preparing the camera's settings for speed, by anticipating the opportunity, and by having the ability to pan along with a moving target. I attribute a lot of my motor skill experience to when I was just starting out with my first digital point-and-shoot camera. While the auto-focus was painfully slow, I did persistently manage to track such action on occasion. Eventually, when I upgraded to faster equipment, the motion of centering the lens at a moving subject translated quite well to the newer technologies. Now, with a speedy auto-focus system, I find the challenge of tracking such shots a lot of fun.
