Bald Eagles
(Haliaeetus leucocephalus)

Where: Chincoteague, VA • Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Notes: This photo has such a peaceful feeling to it. These two large birds of prey are resting not far from their nest on a small island not far off the inner loop trail. I observed one of these eagles making several trips out over the nearby lake to hunt for food. I could always tell when they were circling around because the ducks and geese would stir up in great numbers nervous that they would be the eagles next meal.
