Red-winged Blackbird

Where: Glen Allen, VA • West Broad Street Notes: With only a few hours to try and photograph this nest last May, I was fortunate enough to have gotten a couple of lucky shots of this male blackbird feeding its chicks. The male seemed to spend most of its time guarding the nest, especially from Common Grackles. Meanwhile the female made trips in and out to gather food and feed the chicks. But when the coast was clear the male also flew out to the nearby lake's edge to gather insects.
