Bald Eagle and Eaglet

Where: Charles City, VA • Lawrence Lewis, Jr. Park/Wilcox Wharf Notes: This shot was a pleasant surprise to find as I was cleaning up some of my surmounting photo files last week. I felt like I had been given another birthday present when I opened it. Since this is around the time of year when Bald Eagles begin nesting, I though it would be an appropriate post for this week. Just a few days ago I saw an adult Eagle up on it's nest at Presque Isle National Wildlife Refuge Virginia. Records indicate that Bald Eagle eggs are commonly laid by mid-February. That makes this chick a little over three months old. By this age the chick was very capable of tearing apart and eating a catfish, dropped off by one of the adults on its own. The chick was often seen walking around in the huge nest as it flexed and stretched its developing wings. Finding this treasure has given me a renewed ambition; not just to keep my digital photo developing current, but to get out and witness God's beautiful creatures and the miracles of nature that surround us.
