Where: Outer Banks, VA • Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Notes: One of the great assets of digital photography is the fact that I can shoot hundreds of images at little or no cost. Then choose one or two of the best from a group. This allows for more freedom in the things I choose to photograph as well. With the expense of film developing out of the equation, there is still a hidden cost I often overlook; time. A few shots of this bird and that bird quickly become a library of files, some keepers, some to learn from and some junk. Folders fill, hard drives reach capacity and archives are created and backed-up. File management becomes part of the process. I find as I gain more experience in this endeavor, I am more prudent with the firing of my shutter. I wait for a better situation, for better light and I give myself a good chance for the good images I seek. Then, I can spend more of my time enjoying the outdoors and less time recycling electrons.
