Where: Glen Allen, VA • Broad Street Notes: As man kind continies tochange the landscape of the planet, SOME of nature finds a way to persist and endure. These shots came from the edge of a storm water pond behind a large retail complex parking lot. I was surprised at how much attention the male paid to my camera as it set 12 feet away from the nest on a tripod. I was triggering it remotely. It became obvious that he was primarily in charge of guarding the nest while the female traveled much farther distances to gather food for the chicks. When ever a Grackle flew anywhere near the nest the male was there to defend any threat they might present. Not much of nature can adapt as well as these birds have. Many species are diminishing rapidly in population numbers due to habitat destruction and developement.
