Where: Eastern Shore, VA • Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel
Notes: This is another recent shot from a return trip to the Easter Shore out on the Bay Bridge. This pair of large dark waterbirds, perched on the rocks below, is what originally caught my eye and compelled me to stop for a few last photographs. Having found this species fairly unapproachable in the past, I parked positioning my door behind a nearby trash can. This was to hide the movement of my exit from the vehicle. I slowly opened the door and crept towards the edge bringing them into unobstructed view. They showed no signs of disturbance. So I moved to a position with more favorable lighting and they remained calm. I was able to photograph to my hearts content and until my memory card was full.
