Where: Short Pump, VA • Near I-64 and I-295
Notes: It's moments like this that can make all the waiting worth while to me. This image was captured while I patiently waited over several hours in a blind over 100 feet away. Normally this would be too far away to get a good result with most birds, but the Great Blue Heron's considerable size (Length=38-54" and Wingspan=66-79") goes a long way towards filling the camera's lens.
About every twenty minutes, to as long as an hour, an adult would return to the nest and would regurgitate its latest catch for the waiting youngsters.
