Canada Geese

Where: Bedford County, VA • Coffee Road near RMWC Stables Notes: I thought this would be an appropriate posting for this week since the first day of spring is only a couple of days away. I anticipate opportunities to photograph nesting and migratory birds in the months to come. Just by chance, I came across this family of Geese on a little farm pond just off the roadside last spring. I happened to have my camera with me. Due to the relatively small size of the pond I was able to capture alot of full frame shots. Alerted by my presence initially, the family soon went back to feeding on aquatic vegetation and swimming around as a group. The Canada Goose is considered the most recognized and widespread Goose in North America. Their population has gradually increased over the last fifty years and they can often be seen on small ponds and local lakes year round. Some resident and urban populations are becoming a nuisance in some areas; this problem is especially true in areas where the birds are being fed by humans at parks and other public lake areas.
