Where: Vienna, VA • Meadowlark Nature Photo Expo at Meadowlark Gardens Notes: This Barred Owl image brings back fond memories from my youth. Thoughts of nights when I would hear their distinctive calls from up on the ridge at the Moore's summer retreat "Green Valley" in Buchanan County, Virginia and at family camping trips to Cave Mountain Lake State Park in Rockbridge County, Virginia. This picture was taken at a photo event at the Fifth Annual Meadowlark Nature Photo Expo. This photo "op" was presented by the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia (RCV) and all proceeds from this part of the event went directly to the RCV. This three and a half foot tall owl named "Hipster" is an education bird that resides permanently at RCV. Originally found by the roadside, it is believed that she was hit by a car and has injuries to her left hip that prevent her from being returned to the wild.
