Notes: I noticed this hawk perched in a Red Cedar tree overlooking the field of my backyard as I was carrying some compost to the vegetable garden. I turned and ran to the house get my camera and thankfully the bird was still there when I returned. I slowly walked toward the tree, stopping to take a few shots every time I got ten feet or so closer. Soon I was shooting from only 60 feet away, but then she flew from her perch. Much to my surprise she did not go far, landing in a Virginia Pine on the down-slope of the hillside just behind the field. I began to walk toward her new perch, again stopping and taking pictures each time I got a little bit closer. Then standing as close as I could get, about fifty feet, I squeezed the shutter release button until my memory card was full. Then I slowly turned and walked away, ran up to the house, downloaded and cleared the memory card, grabbed my tripod and mounted the camera on it, ran back across the backyard, slowly approached the same tree where the hawk was still sitting and once again captured nearly another memory card full of images!
