Northern Mockingbird
Where: Goode, VA
Equipment: Canon EOS D20 with 100-400mm Zoom L Series Lens with Image Stabilizer • Manfroto Tripod • 8' Step Ladder • 33' shutter release cable extension • Dog House Blind
Exposure: Shutter Speed = 1/320 • Aperture = f 11.0 • Exposure Mode = Aperture Priority • Lens (Focal) Length = 180 mm • ISO = 200 • Aprox. Camera Distance = ~15 Feet • Date Shot: 06-21-06
Notes: It is not very often that I have found a nest that is as open to shoot as this one, perhaps to their demise. I had only one day to capture images of this Mockingbird family before something removed the young from the nest (perhaps a snake or a Common Crow?). My favorite memory of this shoot was having one of the adults perch on my camera that was strapped up on the step ladder 15 feed from the nest and wishing I had another camera to capture that moment.
