Tricolored Heron (Immature)
Where: Back Bay, VA • Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge
Equipment: Canon EOS D20 with 100-400mm Zoom L Series Lens with Image Stabilizer • Hand held
Exposure: Shutter Speed = 1/1000 • Aperture = f 8 • Exposure Mode = Aperture Priority • Lens (Focal) Length = 365 mm • ISO = 200 • Aprox. Camera Distance = ~30 Feet • Date Shot: 07-22-06
Notes: Taken along the eastern road that leads to False Cape State Park. This was one of two immature herons that were hunting minnows along the canal edges adjacent to the road. I am told this wing positioning is to shade the glare off the water so they can see their prey better.
