2nd Virginia Breeding Bird Atlas

Publication Design and Photography Donation

Project Vision: Virginia’s birds represent a rich cultural and ecological heritage, a living legacy tied to our own identity. We believe that conservation of our natural resources is the province of all people, so it is our responsibility to monitor and protect.

What is the VABBA2? A 5-year statewide inventory of all bird species breeding in Virginia, from Great Dismal swamp to the spruce-fir forests of the western mountains. This project will raise awareness of bird conservation issues and how we can all contribute to their stewardship.

Photography Contest Judge - Henrico County Council of PTAs Reflections Program

I was honored to judge the photography category entries for the Henrico Co. PTAs Reflections Program. Responding to a lack of support for "The Arts" in our schools, this program gives students positive recognition for their artistic efforts, encourages students to explore the arts and express themselves. The national program was founded in 1969 by Mary Lou Anderson and millions of students have benefited from it since. The Henrico County Reflections Awards Program recognizes students in Pre-K through grade 12 who create theme-based artwork in categories such as: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts. This year's theme was: "What is Your Story?" We certainly have some very talented upcoming photographers in Henrico County, VA!

Richmond Environmental Film Festival 2017

Promotional Volunteer and Sponsor

Birds, like all other animals, prefer environments that meet all their basic survival needs: food, shelter and WATER! They depend on water to condition their feathers for flight, to help maintain their body temperature, for hydration, and for hygiene. This film documents 45 different species splashing, drinking and bathing (SEE: YOUTUBE SAMPLE). Still photography and vidoes mixed from every season. Watch and listen with tranquil joy as nature displays this unique array of behaviors. (46 Min. 02 Sec.)
45 Species Included (Video and stills mixed with matching bird song) SEE: THE BIRD SPA DVD
